First post for 2013: Insecure Writer’s Support Group!

“Let’s rock the neurotic writing world!” Alex J Cavanaugh

Wow, can you believe it’s 2013? Christmas and New Years have come and gone, and I’m now 38.5 weeks pregnant!!  For the last Insecure Writer’s Support Group post, I spoke about being worried that my novel, The Big Smoke, will disappear into a cloud of oblivion when bub comes along and I stop promoting for a while. I got some lovely comments on that post, including a great reminder from Cherie Reich that the book will be around for a long time, so it always has a chance to find its audience. That’s the beauty of online retailers – there’s always a chance for your book to become the next ‘overnight success’.

So, to be honest, I’m not nearly as concerned about my book’s sales over the next period as I was a month ago. I’ve done a fair bit of promotion since I launched the book, and hopefully, sales will continue to bubble away on their own now. If not, I won’t be losing sleeping over it – because I probably won’t be getting that much sleep anyway! Not with an infant to care for! 🙂

Here are some photos from Christmas of the bump…

I’m hoping not to disappear completely from the blogosphere once bub arrives. But rather than posting regularly, I’m hoping to spend my online time  hanging out at your blogs and continuing to follow and support your journeys. I can’t wait to see what 2013 brings for everyone!

Also, I’d like to open this blog up to guest posts from my regular followers – no point in a good blog staying silent! So if you’d like to guest post on the amazing Cally Jackson Writes, let me know and I’ll get my people to talk to your people! 😉

Your turn

How was your Christmas and New Years? What’s occupying your mind at the moment? Any insecurities? Would you like to guest post on Cally Jackson Writes?

  1. Cherie was absolutely right, there is always time for your book to hit the big time – so you don’t need to worry! I hope you have a great 2013!

  2. I’m not insecure about much *right this second*, but I’m sure a wave will wash over me sometime soon. 😉 But it will pass, too!

You look great in the red dress! I look forward to reading THE BIG SMOKE, too 🙂

  3. That’s right – your book isn’t going anywhere! People will still find it and buy it. So no worries.

  4. Hey Cally! Happy new year! Look at it this way, once bub arrives, you will be in new social circles called “moms.” And you’ll make many new friends and always be sharing mommy advice and concerns–with that, it never hurts to mention youre a writer and have a business card handy with your website and/or link to your books. It’s an effective way to exchange contacts with fellow moms, while self-promoting without being obnoxious about it.

Your life is about to change drastically, and being absent from blogs is completely excusable and understandable. But I hope you’ll share some pics of your new bundle! 😀

  5. Best of luck with the new baby, and thanks for the shout out on Twitter.

  6. She’s right! It’s a marathon, not a sprint. 😉
Congrats on the bump–you look great! And you don’t have long now!
    Best wishes in 2013!!! 😀

IWSG #137 until Alex culls the list again.

  7. I think we can all forgive you if you disappear for a little while after the baby comes 😉 Good luck!

  8. Only if you have a particular topic you want me to write about.

And, no, you will not have any sleep to lose over anything; the baby will take it all and eat it.

  9. Sounds like you’re going to have your hands extremely full! On the book front, I’m sure your readers and their reviews will take care of things quietly but effectively, while your attention is necessarily elsewhere.

  10. Cherie is right. And boy is your husband cute. Holy cow. Score Cally!

  11. Such a cute bump! You’re getting close now. I’m sure your book will continue to sell. It was great!

And Michael, shame on you! LOL.

  12. I’ve had three little ones. Take the time and enjoy the wee one. They grow up so quick.

  13. Alana

You’re looking so happy Cally! Congratulations to you on a very successful 2012 and all your amazing achievements. How exciting 2013 begins with a brand new journey for your little family and the opportunity for many more successes. x

  14. Happy New Year and congratulations on the new little one arriving soon! I wholeheartedly agree with the statement “it’s a marathon, not a sprint!” Best of luck with your book too!

  15. Congratulations, Cally! A baby is a wonderful thing. The circle continues. Your whole life is about to change and although your book is an equally wonderful addition, ah a baby…

Cherie’s right, there’s plenty of time to promote your novel. The many ways are going to be surprisingly delightful, I think.

Happy New Year! I’m so glad I stopped by.

  16. Congrats, Cally. Hoping everything goes well until the baby joins us in the world. See you around!

  17. The pictures are so cute! You have such an exciting experience right around the corner. I think you have the perfect outlook on the book. It will make it into the right hands at the right time. It’s like a baby you nurtured but have to let thrive on it’s own some at times now that it’s all grown up and out in the world. I know it is appreciated and enjoy 🙂

    Congrats again!! =)
